Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20 1964 is an American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is also the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official of the United States. She is a member of Congress and a former US senator representing California. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. She began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to her move to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she became the San Francisco district attorney. In 2010 Harris was elected Attorney General of California and then re-elected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 until 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As senator, she fought for healthcare reform, federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a path to citizenship for immigrants who are not legal, the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. In the news, attention was paid to her outspoken examination of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings. The most notable was Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual misconduct.
